Daniel Rivero, a resident of Athens, Texas, tragically lost his life in a single-vehicle crash early Thursday morning, March 26, 2026. The crash occurred on FM 317, west of FM 1803, at approximately 2:06 a.m. The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is actively investigating the incident.
According to the preliminary investigation by DPS Troopers, Rivero was driving a Chevrolet pickup west on FM 317 when he approached a left-hand curve at an unsafe speed. As a result, Rivero lost control of the vehicle, drove off the road, and crashed into a tree. Despite efforts to save him, Rivero was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
Rivero’s passenger, 19-year-old Jayden Mirana of Murchison, was injured in the crash and was transported to an Athens hospital for medical treatment. Authorities have not yet disclosed the extent of Mirana’s injuries.
The DPS is continuing its investigation into the cause of the crash, and early reports suggest that unsafe speed may have been a contributing factor. Further details will be provided as the investigation progresses.
