LANSING, Mich. — The Lansing community is grappling with the tragic loss of 28-year-old Gmo Person, who passed away on Thursday, March 26, 2026, after succumbing to critical injuries sustained in a fatal vehicle crash in Putnam Township. Gmo was involved in a police pursuit in a stolen 2024 Range Rover, which ultimately led to the crash and his untimely death.
Earlier that day, a deputy with the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office located the stolen vehicle traveling eastbound on Interstate 96 near Mason Road in Marion Township. The vehicle, reported stolen on March 21 from East Lansing, exited the freeway and fled southbound on D‑19 at speeds of approximately 120 mph. Near the intersection of D‑19 and Swarthout Road, the vehicle attempted to overtake a 2023 Ford F-350, driven by a 55-year-old Pinckney resident. The stolen vehicle struck the front of the pickup before colliding with a stopped 2021 Ford F-450.
Neither occupant of the stolen vehicle, including Gmo, was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Alcohol and drug use are still under investigation as contributing factors. Fortunately, the driver of the F-350 was unharmed. The crash caused the roadway to be closed for several hours as authorities conducted their investigation, with assistance from multiple local departments, including Hamburg Township Police, Pinckney Police, Putnam Township Fire, and Livingston County EMS.
Gmo Person is remembered fondly by his family, friends, and community for his warmth, infectious laughter, and the deep love he shared with those around him. Despite the tragic circumstances of his passing, his life left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
The family will announce a memorial service to celebrate Gmo’s life, a tribute to the kindness and spirit he brought to those fortunate enough to have known him. His memory will continue to live on in the hearts of his loved ones and the Lansing community.
