Jacksonville, Florida – The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department (JFRD) and the wider community are mourning the tragic loss of Rescue Engineer Colton R. Tibbetts, 23, who died in a single-vehicle crash during the early morning hours of March 25, 2026. His sudden passing has left family, friends, colleagues, and the firefighting community in profound grief.
Colton Tibbetts joined JFRD as part of Recruit Class 322 on July 8, 2022, and quickly earned a reputation for dedication, professionalism, and a genuine commitment to public safety. His hard work and leadership led to his promotion to rescue engineer on November 1, 2025, a role in which he inspired his fellow firefighters through both skill and character. Colton’s devotion to service was rooted in family tradition; the son of retired Lt. Brian Tibbetts and Jody Tibbetts, he grew up in a household that valued community service, and he carried that legacy with pride and honor.
Throughout his career, Colton displayed courage, teamwork, and unwavering dedication. Colleagues remember him as dependable, energetic, and compassionate, with a presence that uplifted everyone around him.
