The Central Falls community is grieving the tragic loss of Putali Kunwar, 50, who was fatally shot on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at Sue’s Salon, located at 360 Hunt Street. Her death has sent shockwaves through the city, leaving neighbors, friends, and loved ones deeply saddened.
According to the Central Falls Police Department, officers responded to reports of a woman found unresponsive at the salon. Upon arrival, they confirmed that Kunwar had died from an apparent act of violence. Detectives immediately launched a thorough investigation, canvassing the area and reviewing surveillance footage to identify a suspect and the vehicle involved.
Using recently deployed Flock camera technology, investigators traced a license plate linked to the vehicle. Working closely with the Cumberland Police Department and the North Attleboro Police Department, officers located the suspect, Lawrence Beauvais, 66, at a motel in North Attleboro, Massachusetts. Beauvais was taken into custody without incident and is expected to be extradited to Rhode Island to face charges of First-Degree Murder and First-Degree Robbery.
Mayor Maria Rivera offered her condolences, stating, “This has been a heartbreaking 24 hours for Central Falls. A woman lost her life, and we hold her family, loved ones, and the entire Sue’s Salon community in our hearts. We are grateful for the tireless work of our police and emergency responders, as well as the support of the community.”
Colonel Anthony Roberson added, “Our detectives and officers worked relentlessly to bring a suspect into custody. While nothing can undo this loss, we remain committed to justice on behalf of Putali Kunwar and her family.”
The community extends its deepest sympathies to Kunwar’s family, friends, and loved ones during this profoundly difficult time. Her passing is a solemn reminder of the importance of community safety and the impact of violence on small, close-knit neighborhoods.
